NiceHash returned 100% of stolen Bitcoins to users
The NiceHash cloud mining platform has completed a program to reimburse users for 4,640 BTC (~107.3 million at the time of writing) lost in a hack in December 2017.
Previously, the Slovenian-based company promised to return 100% of the funds by December 16, 2020. The refund was made from the platform fees.
In December 2017, an attacker withdrew more than 4,640 BTC worth $60 million from user wallets on the platform.
NiceHash launched the refund program in February 2018 — monthly users affected by hacking received part of the funds. By August of the same year, the platform announced that it had returned 60% of assets.
In 2019, the FBI accused NiceHash founder Matyash Shkoryants of extortion and fraud through the Darkode darknet marketplace.
Recall that in December 2019, the company suspended the refund in order to maintain sufficient cash flow to continue working.
